Mention the word “miracle” to college football fans in these parts, and most will invariably recall the 1980 Holiday Bowl. Jim McMahon led a furious fourth-quarter rally and threw a last-second Hail Mary touchdown pass to Clay Brown to give BYU a 46-45 win over SMU. Not quite 40 years later, all of college football needs a miracle — perhaps an even more unimaginable one — to save its 2020 season.
