Three Former LSU Tigers Await Their Old Team in Kentucky Blue

When LSU visits Kentucky on Saturday, three Wildcats will recognize the Tigers from the other sideline. Wide receiver Nic Anderson, defensive tackle Ahmad Breaux and offensive tackle Lance Heard all spent part of their college careers in Baton Rouge.

Their routes to Lexington were different. Anderson and Breaux arrived at Kentucky after playing for LSU in 2025. Heard left LSU after the 2023 season, spent two years at Tennessee and joined the Wildcats this year. All three have contributed to Kentucky’s 4 and 1 start.

Nic Anderson has found a bigger role

Anderson came to LSU after a breakout season at Oklahoma. In 2023, he caught 38 passes for 798 yards and 10 touchdowns, setting an Oklahoma freshman record for touchdown receptions. His lone season at LSU was quieter: 12 catches for 106 yards and two touchdowns in 10 games in 2025.

The 6 foot 4 receiver has nine catches for 120 yards and a touchdown through Kentucky’s first five games. Five of those catches came last Saturday at South Carolina, when he set his Kentucky highs with 80 yards and a touchdown.

That performance makes him especially relevant this week. LSU’s secondary knows his size and receiving ability, but Anderson arrives at this matchup with momentum he did not have early in the season. Kentucky has other targets drawing attention, and Anderson showed against the Gamecocks that he can make an offense pay for overlooking him.

Ahmad Breaux returns as part of Kentucky’s defensive rotation

Breaux’s connection to LSU runs deeper than one season. The Ruston native played two years for the Tigers, appearing in 25 games with two starts. He recorded 36 tackles and four tackles for loss before transferring to Kentucky.

He has played in all five Kentucky games this season. The Wildcats credit him with six tackles and a sack. Those totals do not make him the centerpiece of their defense, but he is part of the interior rotation LSU’s offensive line will face.

Breaux also brings a familiar Louisiana football story to the game. He helped Ruston win a state championship before joining LSU, where he developed from a linebacker prospect into a defensive tackle. Now he will line up against the program where that transition began.

Lance Heard has become a fixture at left tackle

Heard’s journey took the longest route back to an LSU matchup. The highly recruited Louisiana lineman played in all 12 regular season games as a true freshman Tiger in 2023. He made one start, earned SEC All Freshman recognition and allowed no sacks on 195 offensive snaps, according to Kentucky’s biography.

After two seasons starting at Tennessee, Heard transferred to Kentucky and took over at left tackle. His performance against South Carolina earned him SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week honors. Kentucky credited him with five knockdown blocks, no penalties and no sacks allowed in the overtime win.

For LSU, Heard presents the most direct matchup of the three. Its pass rush will have to beat a former Tiger who has grown into an experienced SEC starter. Kentucky will count on him to give quarterback Kenny Minchey time to throw and to open room for its running backs.

A familiar twist to an important road game

Anderson, Breaux and Heard give Saturday’s game a personal connection for LSU fans, but the stakes go well beyond a reunion. Anderson is coming off his best game as a Wildcat. Breaux is contributing on the defensive line. Heard is fresh off a conference award.

They once wore purple and gold. On Saturday, LSU’s job is to make sure those familiar faces do not decide the game for Kentucky.
