Deuce Geralds came to LSU with a reputation for living in opposing backfields. Four games into his freshman season, the defensive tackle is already making himself at home there.
LSU lists Geralds at 6 feet 1 inch and 285 pounds. He has started all four games and recorded 13 tackles, four tackles for loss, three sacks and a forced fumble. For a true freshman playing in the middle of an SEC defensive line, that is a remarkable start.
He was a problem in high school
At Collins Hill High School in Suwanee, Georgia, Geralds was more than a highly rated recruit. LSU identifies him as Georgia’s all time high school sack leader. In his senior season, he made 91 tackles, including 37 for loss and 16 sacks. He also forced seven fumbles.
His strength and athleticism showed on the other side of the ball, too. Geralds rushed for 533 yards and 15 touchdowns as a senior. A year earlier, he had 114 tackles and 13 sacks on defense while adding eight rushing touchdowns. Georgia Public Broadcasting Sports named him its 2025 Most Outstanding Defensive Player.
LSU was the choice
Geralds committed to LSU in August 2025 after considering Oregon, Ole Miss, Michigan and Ohio State. ESPN ranked him the nation’s No. 2 defensive tackle prospect, and the Rivals composite ranked him No. 3 at the position. He signed with the Tigers in December.
For Geralds, the decision was personal. Born in Baton Rouge, he told Rivals that LSU had been his “dream school growing up my whole life.” He wanted to return to the city where he had family and make his mark in purple and gold.
The production has followed him to Baton Rouge
Geralds earned a starting spot immediately. Against Louisiana Tech, he made four solo tackles, recorded two sacks and forced a fumble. His first sack stopped a third down attempt and sent the Bulldogs’ punt team onto the field. LSU recovered the fumble he forced later in the game and scored on the ensuing possession.
On Saturday against Texas A&M, Geralds delivered five tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack in LSU’s 35 to 6 victory. The Tigers held the Aggies to 197 total yards. Geralds helped set that tone with a tackle behind the line and a sack of quarterback Marcel Reed before halftime.
There is plenty of season left, but LSU fans do not have to wait to see why Geralds was such a prized recruit. He brought the size, production and hometown connection. Now he is bringing pressure from the middle of the Tigers’ defense. The Deuce is loose.
