Malik Nabers gave the Saints all they could handle. Foster Moreau turned two catches into two touchdowns. Cor’Dale Flott helped Tennessee finally get into the win column.
Even with Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson enjoying their bye weeks, former LSU players delivered plenty of action during the NFL’s sixth week.
Here are the biggest performances and developments from Sunday, October 18, with Jayden Daniels still scheduled to play Monday night.
Malik Nabers Puts on a Show Against New Orleans
The Giants lost to the Saints 34 to 27, but Nabers delivered the kind of performance LSU fans remember well.
Nabers caught 12 passes for 165 yards, including a reception that gained 46 yards. He remained productive despite New York changing quarterbacks from Jameis Winston to J.J. McCarthy during the game.
The performance continued an impressive stretch. Nabers has now topped 100 receiving yards in three consecutive games, following outings of 112 yards against Arizona and 121 against Washington.
Over those three games, he has collected 29 receptions for 398 yards and two touchdowns.
New York could not finish its comeback Sunday, but Nabers supplied a substantial part of the offense. His combination of volume and explosive gains made him the clear headliner of this week’s NFLSU report.
Foster Moreau Makes Both Catches Count
Moreau finished with only seven receiving yards. He also scored twice.
That is a productive day at the office.
The former LSU tight end caught touchdown passes of six yards and one yard in Houston’s 34 to 31 victory over Jacksonville at Wembley Stadium in London. Those were his only receptions.
His first score opened the scoring, and his second helped Houston take a 17 to 14 lead into halftime.
The Texans eventually needed a field goal as time expired to win. Moreau’s two touchdowns were a major contribution in a game decided by three points.
Cor’Dale Flott Helps Tennessee Complete Its Comeback
Flott supplied one of the weekend’s most consequential defensive plays by a former Tiger.
With Indianapolis threatening to extend its lead during the third quarter, Flott intercepted Daniel Jones at Tennessee’s 11 yard line. The takeaway ended a scoring opportunity and gave the Titans another chance to climb back into the game.
Tennessee followed with a field goal drive and eventually won 26 to 20 after trailing 13 to 0 at halftime.
Flott finished with three tackles and his first interception of the season. According to Tennessee’s official postgame notes, it was the fourth interception of his NFL career.
For a team searching for its first victory, that was exactly the kind of play it needed.
Derek Stingley Jr. and Danielle Hunter Contribute to Houston’s Win
Moreau was not the only former Tiger involved in Houston’s victory.
Derek Stingley Jr. recorded six tackles, including five solo stops, and one pass defended against Jacksonville.
Danielle Hunter added three tackles, including one solo stop. He did not record a sack.
Houston’s defense allowed Trevor Lawrence to throw four touchdown passes, so this was hardly a spotless defensive performance. Still, Stingley and Hunter contributed to a divisional victory that required the Texans to keep answering Jacksonville.
On offense, Kayshon Boutte caught two passes for 16 yards, with a long reception of 10 yards.
Mason Taylor Earns Praise From His Quarterback
Taylor caught four passes for 33 yards in the Jets’ 26 to 19 loss to New England.
The former LSU tight end gave Geno Smith another receiving option, and his work drew a direct compliment after the game.
“Mason [Taylor] was having a great game,” Smith said in the official postgame transcript.
Taylor has caught seven passes for 57 yards over his past two games. Sunday’s performance was a step forward in his involvement, although New York’s inability to finish drives kept the offense from turning that production into a victory.
Patrick Queen Helps Pittsburgh Win in Overtime
Queen finished with three tackles, including one solo stop, as Pittsburgh rallied to beat Tampa Bay 26 to 19 in overtime.
The Steelers erased a 16 to 3 deficit in the fourth quarter before winning in the extra period.
Queen did not record a sack or interception. Pittsburgh’s defense nevertheless played a significant role in the comeback, finishing with five sacks and two interceptions.
Grant Delpit Leaves Cleveland’s Win Early
Delpit recorded two solo tackles before leaving Cleveland’s 13 to 10 victory over Baltimore.
The Browns announced that he was being evaluated for a concussion and later ruled him out for the remainder of the game.
His status will be an important development to follow during the week. Cleveland won on a field goal as time expired, but Delpit’s afternoon ended in the opening quarter.
A Difficult Afternoon for Brian Thomas Jr.
Thomas finished without a reception in Jacksonville’s loss to Houston.
It was his second consecutive game without a catch, following the Jaguars’ victory over Philadelphia the previous week.
For a receiver with Thomas’ ability, getting back into the offense is an important next step. Sunday’s production fell well short of the standard he established coming out of LSU.
Burrow, Chase and Jefferson Were Idle
Cincinnati and Minnesota had their scheduled byes, leaving several of LSU’s biggest NFL names off Sunday’s schedule.
Burrow and Chase will return with the Bengals, while Jefferson and the Vikings also had the weekend off.
Their absence gave other former Tigers the opportunity to command the spotlight. Nabers, Moreau and Flott took full advantage.
Jayden Daniels Plays Monday Night
Daniels and the Washington Commanders are scheduled to face San Francisco on Monday, October 19.
His performance is not included in this morning’s completed game totals. The same applies to fellow former Tiger K’Lavon Chaisson, who is also on Washington’s roster.
For the games already completed, Nabers supplied the biggest receiving performance, Moreau delivered the touchdowns and Flott made a takeaway that helped change the direction of a game. It was another weekend with former Tigers making their presence felt across the league.
