Shomari Stone II is a 5’10, 170 pound Class of 2022 defensive back out of St. Johns’ High School in Washington, DC, and he is on the rise. This young man has trained daily during the off season and continues to grow during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Coaches and scouts say he “made a name for himself” at invite only national showcases and camps since January. Football University selected Shomari to attend the upcoming National Combine in San Antonio, Texas in January 2021.

Shomari is a top 2022 DB prospect who has already showcased his skills at the following:

• Football Hotbed National Showcase Game in Atlanta, January, 2020.

• Football University Top Gun Camp in Naples, Florida, July 10-12, 2020.

• ESPN300 Elite Underclassmen Camp in Delaware. July 24. 2020.

 

How has COVID-19 and quarantine affected your life? My great-grandmother in Detroit, Michigan died from the Coronavirus on April 2nd. She always told me to work hard and try my best on the field and in the classroom. I have been training hard with virtual guidance from our St. John’s coaches. I also get support from some of my current and former teammates such as Quinten Johnson from University of Michigan and Tre Williams from Clemson.

Why would you like to play at LSU? I would like to play at DBU or a university that gives me an opportunity to get a good education. I have 3.8 GPA and my education is very important to me.

Have you ever eaten crawfish or gumbo before? I’ve never eaten crawfish, but I’ve had gumbo. I like it as long as it’s not too spicy.

When did you begin playing football and what drew you into the sport? I started playing football in the 3rd grade. I like that it takes a team to have success. My St. John’s teammates are like my family.

Who do you model your game after? I admire Quinten Johnson from University of Michigan.

What have you learned about yourself during quarantine? I’ve learned to be more independent and to use this time for motivation because I spend more time by myself. I have also grown closer with my relationship with God. I pray and ask the Lord to help me and my family stay safe and healthy during the pandemic.

Who is your favorite LSU player (past or present) and why? Tyrann Mathieu. Some people said he was too short to play football. But he worked hard and proved them wrong. Tyrann is 5’9 and explosive. He is aggressive, attacks the ball, and makes plays.

Aside from football, what do you enjoy most during your free time? I like to play video games and talk to my friends.

What is something unique about you that most people don’t know? When I was younger, I played chess which helped me with decision making on the football field.

What do you want LSU fans to know about you? I take my education serious, play hard, and do the best I can. Geaux Tigers!
