Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu’s nickname, “Honey Badger”, has a sort of sweet sound to it. His play is anything but.
In defiance of his 5’9″, 190 lb stature, Mathieu has become one of the very best safeties in the NFL and a First as well as Second-Team All-Pro for the 2019 season. He’s been like that ever since his days at LSU, when the New Orleans native emerged as a terrorizing force and forced his way into the conversation for Consensus All-American honors, SEC Defensive Player of the Year, and even the Heisman Trophy.
And along the way to his first appearance in the Super Bowl, Mathieu has come to be associated as “Honey Badger”, a nickname he is frequently referenced as.
