The coach’s son always carried a football. He tossed it in the air to himself. He buzzed around quarterbacks hoping to earn a pass. Slowly he grew. He wasn’t tall, maybe 5-foot by age nine. But over time the kid transitioned from fan to occasional participant to full-on route-runner.
Longtime arena league player Matt Jackson, a Florida Gator from 2000-03, remembers the escalating whispers.
“Ah that’s the coach’s kid.”
