For the first time since the 2011 campaign, LSU claimed the No. 1 spot in the AP Top 25 Poll when the Tigers jumped Alabama for king of the hill.

Only six points separated the two unbeaten teams that will square off in Tuscaloosa, Ala. on Nov. 9, but for LSU it’s a reward for their impressive résumé.

The path to No. 1 has been the most treacherous of the top contenders with three wins over top-10 teams – Texas (45-38), Florida (42-28) and Auburn (23-20).
