LSU announced a jersey transition in March as if the player would soon join a secret society. Junior safety Grant Delpit, a unanimous All-American in 2018, would don No. 7 for the Tigers. Alongside Delpit in the announcement were names like Patrick Peterson and Tyrann Mathieu, a bold-faced indictment of the company Delpit now keeps.

“This is truly an honor, especially when you consider all the great players that have worn the number,” Delpt said in a statement. “I look up to those guys and try to model my game after them.”

Thing is, Delpit’s game is unlike either of those defensive backs, at least in its totality.
