Prather, a graduate of Woodlawn High School in 1965, was a standout athlete in just about every sport.
He made a name for himself on the football field as a quarterback, which led him to LSU.
But after a few seasons in Baton Rouge, Prather decided to drop out and enlist in the Marines. Soon after, he was deployed to Vietnam. Two months later, he was injured by a landmine.A few days later, in January 1968, Prather fell victim to his injuries. He died one week prior to his 21st birthday.
