Sankey defended the 6-1-1 schedule structure, which allows non-divisional teams to rivals (such as LSU vs Florida).
However, it allows for one other new non-divisional opponent each year. That model helps preserve long-standing rivalries between East vs West opponents, but it prohibits schools from playing new teams for another eight years.
