LSU coach headlines 21st annual SCIA Banquet

Before his days of leading multimillion dollar programs into extravagant venues, Orgeron played in a state championship game for South Lafourche High School.

“About 6 in the morning on the day of the state championship, I smelled fried shrimp,” said Orgeron. “I thought, ‘man, I got to be dreaming.’ So I went back to sleep. Next thing I hear was kicking on my door and a ‘get up boy!’ My momma opened up the door and she had my helmet on, pompoms in one hand and a shrimp boil in the other. She came in saying we got to win tonight. Boy! I was thinking we better win.”

Orgeron then went on to speak about the tied game that his team overcame to win and how that would set the stage for his coaching and leadership career.
