Blocking below the waist and fair catch rules among changes for 2018 football season

SEC coordinator of football officials Steve Shaw met with reporters Thursday to review key football rules changes for the 2018 season.

Chief among them is a change that will allow teams to make a fair catch inside their 25 on kickoffs (or kicks after safeties) and still place the ball at their 25. The rule is designed to lessen the possibility of injuries on kick returns.“We feel like we will see more touchbacks,” Shaw said.
