May 25, 2018May 25, 2018 LSU Football Report LSU’s Billy Cannon was young boys’ hero in days of radio and front-yard football Personally Cannon’s death brought me back to a comfortable place where I sometimes like to retreat, a time when your life consisted mainly of baseball and football cards, playing whiffle ball with your friends, and getting dirty and bruised in the front yard during impromptu tackle football games with your neighborhood buddies. Many times during those front yard football games at ages 9 and 10, we pretended to be LSU players, and Cannon usually was the first name called.
