He now holds a spot on the Patriots depth chart that would put him behind the starting quarterback. That quarterback, for now, is usual backup Brian Hoyer. With five-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady staying away from offseason activities, Hoyer has moved into the No. 1 spot in the team’s QB rotation and Etling has the spot directly behind him.
